Wilmslow Festival of Nature – Green Open Homes

Updated: Mar 24

This Saturday, 17th September 2022!

Transition Wilmslow and local collaborating groups have put on a second Festival of Nature, with events, talks and walks all through September.

We had a lovely time at the Community Garden harvest supper last Saturday, produce having been expertly ready-steady-cooked up by local chefs Nick and Jonny (totally delicious!).

This weekend is the Green Homes tour: you can book all 5 houses as a circuit, one of which is Yours Truly’s hive on Hawthorn Walk. So come and visit us to see (and feel) what we’ve done to the house – please book here and go to the Tickets tab, so we can fit everyone in (and have an idea of numbers for that all important cake!).

And don’t miss a tour of Chris Frankland’s (of Frankland Tree Services) house, gardens – including a ‘Cheshire varieties’ orchard, as well as the raised beds, workshops and brand new kiln – on Sunday 18th. Chris provided us with the window boards and cladding on the front, so it’s well worth seeing.

We’ve finally had the reveals painted in anticipation of welcoming you all – our thanks to Bloor Decor – and will hopefully have had some of the decking built at the back by the time folk come round.

An offcut of window board was magically crafted into this bee and hive carving by our amazing joiner Erol. Can you imagine this?? He was working all day on our retrofit and then went home to create this in the evenings! It was an emotional moment being presented with his gift, believe me. Thank you Erol, you’re amazing!

Other events this week include a zoom talk by the Director of Mersey Forest, 2040 at the Rex Cinema, an evening cycle ride to the pub and a family bike ride to Bruntwood Park. Something for everyone!

The festival signature event will be a Car Free day in the centre of Wilmslow (yes, the team actually made this happen with Wilmslow Town Council backing!). Come along for a chilled afternoon enjoying the stalls and pedal-powering the music concert hosted by Radio 6’s DJ Chris Hawkins.

If you’re in the area, we’d love to see you!!

It's me, hi!

Welcome to my blog where I download some of my latest thoughts and musings, talk about experiences, write up my biggest personal project - my own home retrofit - and generally use it for catharsis.
